How to Start Designing a Bee Theme Nursery
If you love the sweet awkward bug that seems to awkward to fly, honey bees, then a bee themed nursery might be perfect for you. Also if you love the vibrant cheery color yellow, or are simply looking for a very unique and gender neutral theme for your nursery, a bumblebee nursery might be the perfect choice for your little one’s new room.
A honey bee room can be filled with bold and vibrant colors like yellow and black and even green. A bee theme is great for a baby girl or baby boy.
Begin By Designing the Walls
You can begin designing your bee-themed nursery with fresh low VOC paint in either white or light yellow. You could also paint the entire room one color except for a single accent wall which could be bright yellow, bright green, or even black if you are feeling gutsy.
If repainting your walls isn’t within your design ideas, consider some bee wallpaper on either one or all of the walls of the new nursery.
The last wall design idea that is much less permanent and perfect if you are renting is to put up some bee wall decals instead. You can get as creative and whimsical with this as you want. Perhaps adding in grass and flowers, clouds and sun, and then bumblebees between.
After the base of the walls is completed it’s time to choose your wall art for the new nursery. There are so many inspirational kids art prints that you can feature on the walls of your nursery.
Bumble bee nursery wall art can be big and bold or subtle and artsy.
Modern minimalist nursery decor prints in nice frames or unframed nursery prints on canvas look really classy. If working within a strict budget for your nursery design, you can still make a cute nursery with cardstock wall art posters that your print yourself as long as you print them on high quality cardstock paper on your printers’ best setting.
Select the Furniture
If you have chosen bold walls, white nursery furniture can be a great addition in your bee nursery. If you selected neutral wall colors a wood crib and furniture set would look nice also. Selecting a nice crib that eventually converts into a toddler bed will make it simple to convert the entire space into a kids bedroom a year or two down the road.
You don’t need too much furniture to finish out a nursery. A crib and small dresser are the only things that are essential but there are other furniture pieces that can be helpful if you have the space to fill and the funds to spend as well. Consider adding a changing table (which typically provides additional storage as well and can feature a bee changing pad cover of course) and a glider or rocking chair.
A popular trend that is perfect to add into a bee themed room is honeycomb shelves. They are the perfect addition to add one of the latest trends.
Select the Perfect Crib Bedding Set
There are some adorable crib bedding sets that feature bumblebees. You could even select a yellow and black crib set with a bold print to tie your theme together. Either choice will create a bee-autiful space to decorate around.
There are also some really sweet bee mobiles that you can hang above the crib to pull the entire look together.
Consider Adding a Rug and Window Treatments
While both rugs and window treatments are not essential in a nursery, they can be very important in some cases, make it more cozy, and tie your theme together. Consider adding a fluffy area rug in a bright color like yellow.
A soft easy-to-clean rug can be a great way to cover up hardwood floors and make a better space for crawling, which will be important soon enough!
There are multiple things to consider when selecting a window treatment. Many babies don’t sleep unless they are in complete darkness, so consider featuring 100% blackout curtains in the nursery.
Babies need to sleep often and frequently are restless and easily overtired. Having a nice space you can black out any time of day (along with a white noice machine) can make all the different when baby is going down for a nap.
If you don’t feel blackout curtains are essential, then consider tulle curtains to add a touch of whimsy.
Add in Lots of Accessories
Placing the right accessories around the room that match with your theme will give it a cohesive look. Add a soft yellow throw blanket across the glider and a honey bee pillow as well.
Place a bee security blanket in the crib and a stuffed bumblebee on the shelves.
Place other items on the shelves and dresser that tie together the look of your kid’s room like bee plaques and a bee lamp.
Pull everything together with a bee laundry basket and maybe even some bee string lights to use as a nightlight when nursing and doing diaper changes in the middle of the night.
