Choose only the best natural and organic diaper rash creams for your newborn baby.

A lot of you may think that diaper creams are unnecessary to start with.  I don’t blame you!

Babies cost a lot of money and we would like to keep the costs low by omitting unwanted items.

But,a diaper cream is not something I would skip. I will tell you, why.

Customisable and Interactive Baby Registry Checklist

1

Should I Skip Diaper Creams?

Diaper area is a very delicate part of our baby, and a  very sensitive one too. The skin around the diaper area is constantly exposed to poop, pee and has been wiped multiple times a day.

A good quality diaper cream is essential to protect the  skin from being irritated, balance the ph levels of the skin and keep the skin moisturized.

Yet another thing to keep in mind is choosing a top notch diaper cream that is void of terrible chemicals.

You have to be mindful in the diaper cream that you choose. Choosing a non-toxic diaper cream is very important if you are serious about limiting your baby to chemical exposures.

2

Ingredients to Avoid :

I can’t seem to wrap my head around the reason for all the chemicals I see in some of the baby products. Seriously! Why not keep it simple?

If you try reading some of the ingredients added in baby diaper creams, you will find some ridiculous and shocking items.

Here is a list if ingredients to avoid. When you spot this in a diaper cream,Don’t walk, Run!

    • Boric acid or Sodium Borate – Potential skin irritant. Easily absorbed into skin and not to be applied on broken skin.
    • Parabens – These are added as a preservative to personal care products and they are  linked to cause breast cancer and other serious health issues.
    • Petroleum – A petroleum based product that clogs up pores, and suffocates the skin.
    • Fragnance – A term used by brands to hide various chemicals that can cause health hazards.
    • BPA – One of the top 12 worst hormone disruptor in EWG’s Dirty Dozen database. BPA is known to cause all kinds of cancer, obesity, early puberty and heart diseases.

La Petite Creme – French Diapering Lotion (aka Liniment)

La Petite Creme is quite different from your typical diaper balm. An Oleo Calcareous liniment in a popular French version of diaper lotion. The fascinating thing about liniment is that they act as a cleanser as well as a lotion.

A liniment is mostly used with a cloth wipe or a disposable cotton pad. You pump a dollop of liniment on the wipe and use it clean pee and poop.

Just because it is intended to use with a cloth wipe doesn’t mean you can’t use it otherwise. Many parents have used this as a regular diaper lotion, after wiping their baby’s bum with a disposable wipe.

La Petite Creme has only 6 ingredients, is zinc free, drug free, paraben free, fragrance free and 100% hypo-allergenic.

A special ingredient that makes this liniment work better in preventing diaper rashes is lime ( Calcium Hydroxide). Lime is a naturally occurring mineral that has been used as a cleanser in diapering lotion all through out Europe. It actively balances the ph level of the skin and removes the acidic waste (uric acid, ammonia) from the diaper area, thus preventing diaper rash occurrence.

  • Water
  • Glycerin
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Beeswax

For Diaper Rashes:

Diaper rash creams come with an extra punch that is needed to calm the soreness and redness on the bum area. The main ingredient that is used in most diaper rash creams is Zinc Oxide, a naturally occurring mineral that forms a barrier layer above the skin, absorbs all the moisture away from the skin and reduces diaper rash symptoms.

I wouldn’t recommended using diaper rash creams on a daily basis. However, it is good to have one in hand just in case you baby comes down with an inevitable bum rash.

Let’s Wrap Up:

Diaper rashes are cruel and seeing your baby scream during every diaper change can be heart breaking. In most cases, changing the diaper frequently, scheduling diaper free time and using a chemical free diaper can prevent diaper rashes.

If your baby does get a horrible diaper rash, there are better alternatives like the Honest Co diaper rash cream and Boudreaux’s butt paste that can treat rashes effectively than chemical prone commercial creams.
